Heart attack survivor Sue Mitchell is sharing her story in hopes that more people will call 911 if they think they might be having a heart attack. She had all the classic symptoms, but decided to drive herself to the hospital – in case it was “nothing.” Halfway there, she was in so much pain, she had to pull over and call 911. That call probably saved her life.
Because Sue called 911, within 22 minutes from the time that MedStar delivered her to @PlazaMedical, cardiologist Keith Vasenius and the Plaza cath lab team performed coronary angioplasty and stent placement, restoring blood flow to Sue’s heart. Coordinating with EMS partners like MedStar allows our cardiac team to take the patient straight to Plaza’s cath lab for treatment, saving precious minutes and reducing the chance of heart damage.
